Easy (Obvious) Closet Storage

You ever have one of those "duh" moments? You know, where a thought occurs to you that is so simple and so obvious you think "Duh! Why the hell didn't I think of that before??" Nothing like one of these moments to make you feel like an idiot. This particular epic moment was brought to you by my daughter. Sometimes you just need a 5-year-old to point out your stupidity.

This obvious idea involved my closet and although it is indeed obvious, these oversights happen to the best of us and I thought I'd share so I can make you feel like an idiot too! You're welcome.

Scarves! These were the bane of my organizing existence. They were all draped on this poor hanger and it looked a hot mess....not that the rest of my overloaded closet looks much better, but these were worse! Not to mention how difficult it was to get to each one. Of course, the one I need is always on the bottom!

No Longer a Virgin and Old Lady Shoes

No, not that kind! I have kids smarty pants. I mean, I'm no longer a peplum virgin! I'm actually taking part in a trend while it's still a trend! Watch out! And you know I love my yellow smiley face store; my beautiful cobalt skinnies came from the World of Wally and they were $5. Booyah.

And my old lady shoes. Oh, my old lady shoes. I'm not kidding when I say they're old lady shoes. They came from my aunt. My great aunt. Who happens to be 68. Maybe they were too trendy for her? Yeah, I don't know cause they definitely look right up an old lady's ally to me. But she gave them to me, tags still on them and everything. And I am not one to look a gift horse in the mouth. Is that how the saying even goes? Yeah I don't know what I'm talking about. Point is, I don't turn down nuffin for free! Nuffin!

I Feel Like a Badass

You ever have one of those days where an outfit just comes together in a way that just makes you feel cool?  I literally had 10 minutes to get dressed this morning and I just grabbed the most accessible items in the closet and boom. Does it totally kill the cool factor by talking about it? There went the mystique. Hey, I didn't say I actually was cool, I just said I felt like it.

Spring VoxBox

I got my first VoxBox everyone! I had no idea it was coming, I just opened the mailbox and there was this beautiful purple package just waiting for me to open it.

I've seen so many people review these and I always wanted to try these things out. I am a creature of habit by nature. I pretty much run on the motto "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". So when I find something that works, I'm really bad about only buying that one thing and never trying anything new. This was such an awesome way to try some products I probably would have never bought otherwise.

  1. Secret Outlast Clear Gel Antiperspirant $4.59
  2. OSIS Gelastic $18.00
  3. Broadway Nails imPRESS Press-on Nails $5.99 - $7.99
  4. NYC Applelicious Glossy Lip Balm $2.99
  5. Tastykake Kandy Bar Kakes $4.49 (per box)

I have never bought a gel deodorant before. I've always used the regular ol' deodorant although I have always used Secret. It felt kinda weird going on. It's wet unlike other deodorants and felt like I was putting hair gel or something in my pits. I don't think that has anything to do with the brand, I imagine all gel deodorants feel like that. The smell was awesome and it lasted all day. And I really didn't have any problems with white marks on my shirt and I have to say, I have that problem a lot. I will definitely buy this.

I don't ever use gel, I'm a mousse girl. No matter how I'm styling my hair, up or down, I always use my volumizing mousse. I've never liked gel because it makes my hair too stiff and "crispy". Mousse gives me the hold I need but it's still pliable and manageable. I was anticipating what I call the "helmet head" with this gel and it wasn't quite as bad as other gels. I mean, the bottle says "Ultra strong flex gel". With that said, the hold wasn't quite as good either. I tried these beachy waves with it and my hair was just limp and heavy. Maybe if I had tried an updo of some sort, I may have felt different about it. I'm going to try it out again and see if it works any better. I will say the smell was wonderful! With an $18.00 price tag and a "meh" attitude, I probably will not buy this.

Oh, these nails. What can I say about these nails... First of all, I haven't worn press-on nails since middle school and I have only gone to a nail salon 3 times, so the thought never occurred to me to ever pick up a set at the store. They were fairly easy to apply even though I'm a novice. There were a lot of sizes to choose from, although I had a lot of trouble finding one wide enough for my thumbs. Fat thumb syndrome? Anyway, they're fairly pliable and bendable so unlike other press-ons, they don't break or snap off which makes the wear time a lot longer. I was genuinely surprised at how well these held up! They stayed strong throughout all of my "mom duties". I scrubbed a tub and did dishes and they didn't budge. They fit nice and were a good length for me; long nails just aren't practical for me and these were perfect. The style they sent me though....wow. Just, wow. These were a little "ghetto fabulous" for my taste. I'm not a fan of zebra print or Hawaiian flowers...or especially zebra print with Hawaiian flowers. What is the correlation between the 2 anyway? I fail to see the appeal. To each his own, I suppose! If they sell plain colors or more subtle designs, I would actually buy some. Not for everyday wear but they'd be great for a special occasion.

This was the first thing I opened. You all know I'm working on trying out lipsticks and I was so excited to see one in the box. However, upon closer inspection, I realized it's not a lipstick at all but a lip balm. Whomp whomp. Not what I hoped but lip balms are nice too. This balm has an apple shaped center that contains Shea Butter, Jojoba Oil, Vitamin E and Avocado to moisturize. It goes on really smooth and does a good job at moisturizing. I will warn you though, it smells ah-mazing but tastes absolutely awful. When something smells that good, I expect it will taste good too; like those Lip Smackers we all get as kids. That's not the case! DO NOT LICK YOUR LIPS! It will gag you and that's not an exaggeration! Aside from the taste though, it has a nice subtle color and has an average last time. I won't wear it everyday but it's good on days when I don't want to wear a lot of makeup. I might buy it. It was a nice subtle color and it felt good on my lips but that taste really is just so bad.

Ok, this cake should just be renamed "Nastykake". I don't like snack cakes to begin with so I thought, ok maybe I just can't judge objectively. So I let my husband try it because he is a grown man-child who would live off of snack cakes if I would let him. He didn't like it either. Neither did my kids and they will eat 6 month old Halloween candy from couch cushions. The peanut butter does legitimately taste like Reese's, I will give it that. The rest of the cake was just....not good! It was moist enough but the flavor was just off. I mean, it tasted like an old, cheap, vending machine snack cake and it crumbles like whoa. Save your money on this one.

So for my first voxbox, I liked 3 out of 5. If you're looking for a new deodorant or some press-on nails, I really do recommend the Secret Clear Gel and the imPRESS manicure. The NYC balm was a pretty color and it was smooth on my lips, I just hated the taste. If you don't lick your lips or mind the taste, it's a nice balm otherwise. But I definitely don't recommend the Tastykake. Hope this was helpful for you guys! If you would like to see more reviews, let me know in the comments! Until next time...

Summa, Summa, Summatime

Well, it's not technically summer yet but it certainly feels like it. It was 90 today. That's way too hot for this indoor girl. Until the pool's temperature is warm enough to swim in, I'd just assume stay inside. I know, it's terrible. I complain just as much when it's cold.

Wally World Chic

Yep, there is such a thing. And that's 'Walmart' for those of you who don't speak poor. You all already know I have no shame and would sell my mother to get a good deal (not kidding  kidding, love you ma!). So while I'm in there "price droppin'" on my groceries, I swing by the clothes from time to time and this weekend I found this little gem on clearance for $7.00. In addition to my thrifted $6.00 Target wedges, my thrifted $2.00 no holla necklace, my $1.00 bracelet and free belt (came with an old dress). For those of you who aren't a calculator, or who are like me and don't like numbers and stuff, that's a grand total of $16. Boom.

DIY Foot Soak: Summer-Ready Feet

Ok so anyone who knows me, knows I loathe feet. Some people have a foot fetish (ew!), I have a foot phobia. I don't want to touch them, look at them or be anywhere around them. Unfortunately for me, I have 2 attached to the bottom of my legs...or fortunately, depending on how you wanna look at it. I don't think I'd enjoy walking around on stumps either! But anyway there is one thing worse than feet, and that is ugly feet. I have what I believe to be ugly foot syndrome. Or U.F.S. (No, that's not actually a real thing) Of course I can't really judge objectively because I hate all feet equally and my disgust knows no bounds, but I have spent my life barefoot and that's taken its toll. I hate socks and shoes almost as much as I hate feet. But while walking around barefoot feels great, it does not do kind things to the state of your feet...

It's the Remix to Ignition...

...or the remix to a sequined dress. But it's still hot and fresh out the kitchen. You know, tomato tomahto.

I don't know how "sassy" it is, but it sounded good with "sequin". I really struggled with this dress. I love the darn thing but it's just a tad bit short. My husband hates it...so I wear it anyway. I think when the weather cools down again I could pair it with leggings and we could have a nice compromise. That's what marriage is about, right? I get what I want until I can compromise. No?

200!

No, I'm not talking about the movie. I didn't forget how many spartans there were running around in their capes and diapers. What I'm talking about, is followers! This tiny little blog has reached 200 followers! When I put that into perspective of how many that actually is, it's larger than my graduating class in our tiny hometown high school! That just blows my mind! 200 whole people (I don't think any of you have half of yourselves operating independently but I don't judge) came to my blog, saw what I had to say and liked it enough to hit "follow". It is so easy to compare yourself to other blogs and realize how miniscule you are measured up to them but when I step back and really realize that these people are following me, it's just absolutely amazing! Thank you to each and every one of you!! Ok, I promise I'm not going to do this with every hundred followers (assuming I ever even get another hundred...or even another 10), I'm just so crazy happy that this seemingly small part of my life has had such a huge impact on me and all of you enjoy it too.

Ok so, I have no shame. I am a money saver. Well, really I just don't have any money to spend. So when it comes to my clothes, I have no limits to which I will go to save a couple bucks. This skirt came from the girl's section at JC Penny and I have no shame in admitting that. It was crazy cheap on clearance. I would buy toddler's clothes at that price, if it would fit me!

The Key to Lace

Bonjour mon ami! No, I don't know french just trying to keep it real. Yeah, you know how I like to make sense. So I don't mean to toot my own horn but (beep beep) I'm really liking this OOTD. I've had this skirt just laying in my closet all sad and lonely because I didn't know what to pair it with. The key was this pair of shoes. Not quite a heel, not quite a boot. I'm not sure what you'd call them, I call them awesome. I was too hung up on thinking that a lace skirt needed to be dressy and couldn't be casual. Yeah, shows you what I know. You all really probably shouldn't be taking advice from me...but anyway, it turned out pretty fab despite the fact that I'm apparently not as fashion savvy as I thought.
